From weekend runners to super athletes, from international corporations to local schools, the Dead2Red Relay Running Race unites people of all backgrounds and nationalities under one goal to cross the finish line. But this year, in coordination with Amman Road Runners, refugees will also be participating.
Jordan currently hosts over 760,000 refugees of 57 nationalities, from Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, among many others, who have been forced to flee their countries. Together with partners and communities, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, works to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another country. It’s time to join them in solidarity. Starting with the Dead2Red, UNHCR is launching the #StepWithRefugees campaign in Jordan: together, we are part of a global challenge to cover two billion kilometres in 12 months, just as refugees worldwide do each year to reach the nearest point of safety. Join us in honoring their resilience and determination.
Building on the success of the first refugee team to compete in the Dead2Red race in 2018, UNHCR will again be supporting refugee participation; but there’s a difference. This year, UNHCR staff will be running alongside refugees, two teams made up of five refugees and five staff. Follow our progress as we Step With Refugees.
